Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month: Promoting Safe and Healthy Relationships.
February marks Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM): We dedicate this time to raising awareness about unhealthy relationships and empowering young people to recognize the signs of abuse. While our mission at Percipience Home Care focuses on providing compassionate support to seniors, we understand that safety and well-being extend beyond elder care. Creating healthy relationships at every stage of life is essential.
Understanding Teen Dating Violence
Teen dating violence is more common than many realize. According to the CDC, 1 in 3 teenagers experiences some form of dating abuse, be it physical, emotional, or psychological. Abuse can take many forms, including:
· Physical abuse – Hitting, shoving, or other forms of physical harm
· Emotional abuse – Manipulation, humiliation, or constant criticism
· Digital abuse – Controlling behavior through social media and texting
· Financial abuse – Controlling access to money or resources
Recognizing these warning signs is the first step in preventing and addressing dating violence.
How We Can Support Healthy Relationships
As caregivers, parents, and community members, we can act by:
✔ Educating young people on the signs of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships
✔ Encouraging open conversations about love, respect, and personal boundaries
✔ Providing resources and support to those experiencing relationship abuse
At Percipience Home Care, we believe in fostering a culture of care, respect, and support for all. Just as we prioritize the well-being of seniors, we stand in solidarity with efforts to create safe spaces for young people.
Join the Movement
This month, take the time to spread awareness about teen dating violence. It could be through conversations, social media advocacy, or supporting organizations that help survivors, your voice matters. Together, we can build a future where all relationships are based on kindness and respect.
